Brand New Day

The debut single from Delilah, Brand New Day, signals the arrival of a new and exciting young vocal talent. Now Toronto-based, this songstress has already led an extraordinary life, and her life story adds a powerful emotional resonance to this melodic, vibrant and uplifting pop gem.

The pure pop splendour of Brand New Day may well remind you of prime-time ABBA, while other tunes that will soon appear on Insecurity, Delilah’s debut album, will showcase her well-honed r n' b chops. She has been working in the studio with her co-producers and co-writers, Lemoyne Alexander and Dave Sereny. Alexander is a heavyweight producer who has worked with the likes of R. Kelly, Aaliyah, and Fresh Prince, and he has been highly impressed with Delilah’s attitude and vocal ability.

That assessment is shared by both Vikter Duplaix (EWF, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu), another ace producer who has worked with Delilah, and Stevie Wonder’s longtime bassist Nathan Watts, whose intuitive playing graces Brand New Day.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Delilah is of pure gypsy (Romanyi) descent. “In my family, everybody loves to get together to sing and dance and play music,” she recalls. “At 6, I jumped up on the table and exactly imitated my favourite gypsy singer, Margit Bongo.”

Four years later, Delilah was touring Europe, singing and dancing in the ensemble of her inspiration. Following the lead of her guitar virtuoso brother Paul, she then discovered Jazz, r n' b and Western pop in her teens, studying the styles with true passion. After a brutal racist attack in which Delilah and her sister were abducted and beaten, their father sought refuge in Canada, moving the family there in 1998.

Delilah and Paul soon turned heads and ears performing in local clubs, and that’s where they came to the attention of guitarist/producer Dave Sereny. He signed Delilah to his new record label, Groove United, and there has been no looking back. “I have a family background that has been very hard,” Delilah explains. “Now I feel very blessed to be living here, getting to do this music with these great producers. It is like a ‘brand new day’ for me.”
